Marysol Patton might not be keeping a mojito in there The Real Housewives of Miami‘s opening sequence, but that’s fine with them – as long as the check clears!
“I’m like, ‘Just give me the paycheck! I brought my own mojito. Give me the check!’” RHOM OG jumps to ET and zooms in from their Florida home. Marysol returned to the franchise for the Peacock revival, but this time as “girlfriend of” (which was also her status in Season 3) – although that moniker doesn’t quite mean what it used to mean. While the cast of ‘Friend of’ previously acted primarily as supporting characters, Marysol and Adriana de Moura, her original housewife and ‘Friend of’ season 4, are, for lack of a better term, very strong in the mix and drive the story into almost everyone Consequence.
“For me personally [the original run] was a very stressful thing doing my job, making sure my mom had hair and makeup, dressed, running my company, filming – it was just too much for me,” says Marysol of the changes she’s undergone during That time witnessed the show’s eight-year hiatus.” Now it’s like, ‘Yay! I can film! I have something to do today.’
Since RHOM wrapped up his final season on Bravo, Marysol retired from her PR work, and her beloved mother, breakout star “Mama Elsa” Patton, died in 2019 at the age of 84, channeling her late mother with quirky jokes and scathing comments in her confessionals.
“[During season 1 through 3]”I had an important business that I ran and I couldn’t exactly be the crazy me that everyone else knows,” she admits. “Lisa [Hochstein] tells me all the time, ‘I’m so glad you’re the person I know but on camera’ and I said, ‘Well what do I have to lose now?’ I do not work anymore. Who cares? I can just be me It does not matter. what will you say “You drank too much. you were stupid You were ridiculous.’ Who cares? I’m not hurting anyone.”
Marysol had actually given up hope that the show would return after being “put on hiatus” indefinitely in 2013, but she thinks her mom would have gotten a kick out of her comeback.
“I think she would have loved it and probably still said, ‘Andy [Cohen]’I want to be a housewife,’” she guesses, while perfectly mimicking her mother’s thick Cuban accent ‘To be a housewife?’ She says, ‘Yes. Why can’t it be called Elsa and her friends?’ That’s how she wanted it Elsa and her friends. ‘I’m the housewife, and everyone else is just my friends around me.’”
Featuring Elsa unable to return and longtime stars Lea Black, Joanna Krupa, Ana Quincoces and others not returning RHOM‘s revival, new wives were added to complete the cast and usher the show into a new decade: there’s Russian beauty queen Julia Lemigova, anesthetist Dr. Nicole Martin, party planner Guerdy Abraia and model Kiki Barth.
“I had never met Guerdy and Nicole,” Marysol admits. “Still Kiki. I had never heard of them but they were all nice girls and I think it worked. Obviously someone did something right.”
However, Marysol soon heard a lot about Nicole. The two are currently in a minor fight, she said, after Marysol (somewhat out of the blue) accused Nicole of talking about the other women – namely Lisa, Larsa Pippen and (Marysol’s BFF) Alexia Echevarria – behind her back. However, the alleged incidents happened off-camera, leaving room for interpretation as to what the truth is.
“I’ve heard of the same type of comment, different from people, on three separate occasions,” reveals Marysol.
“I knew about it before we started filming, and I was like, ‘Well, she doesn’t like these girls. She’s not going to like them on camera…’ and then I saw that she was really close to them and being really nice and I was like, ‘That’s a red flag,’” she continues. “I didn’t know if it would ever come out because you can’t just blurt things out for no reason. It makes no sense. So, 75 percent of the shooting, we go to the Hamptons and then she just loses it to Alexia [over room assignments]. And I thought you know what? If you team up with Lisa against my best friend – and I’ve already warned Lisa about the things you said – maybe everyone should know what you said, and I’ve decided to just do it tonight.
“I didn’t know when it would come out or if it would ever come out, it just seemed like it wasn’t legit to me at the moment,” she adds. “Sometimes you have to clear the air for everyone to move forward, and then decide how to be friends with someone, or anything, or love them, and move forward. It cleaned the air.”
Nicole describes the moment – which happened during a dinner with all the cast – as a “bullying attack,” a label Marysol doesn’t accept.
“I think if you say those things, maybe you are the bully,” she shoots back. “I was just repeating what she said. That’s all.”
“These girls have been my friends for 10 years now, and I will always protect and defend my friends until they completely screw me — and believe me, that’s happened to me a lot in 10 years,” adds Marysol, which explains why she’s more involved in Season 4 than Seasons 1-3.
“I had to remove a lot of people from my life who were obviously just not good for me and didn’t help me get better,” she continues. “I’ve lost a lot and I don’t have time for BS anymore. I’m here to have a really good day, to be happy and to make sure everyone else around me is too. I’m not here to torture anyone, that’s for sure. And I’m not trying to be an asshole. Maybe I was a bit of an idiot, but I’m not an asshole.”
However, there is more drama as to where that came from; As first teased in the Season 4 trailer, things heat up between Adriana and Larsa during a cast trip to the Versace Mansion, where Adriana proclaims, “You left this group of women, come back with a butt the size of that of Kim Kardashian, and try to be the Kim Kardashian you will never be!”
“If everyone thought the Hamptons was a bit much, wait until you’ve gotten through dinner and breakfast the next day,” teases Marysol. “I did not know what to say. I didn’t know where to look. It was a lot. It was big.”
“I’m kind of preparing for impact,” she says of what’s to come this season. “I mean I was there. I heard I was there. I try not to remember too much. I don’t know if it’s a self-protective mechanism, but Alexia will say, ‘Remember when they said? that?’ I say, “No, I don’t remember…” She says, “How can you not remember?!” I say, “I don’t know…” I don’t know if I blocked it out, but if you say that I have to believe you that happened. I was there. look at it like it’s a whole new thing.”
And after the premiere of the last episodes, there will be a reunion. The women already filmed the all-cast sit-down special last month.
“A whole day is a blur,” says Marysol. “I had to use the ladies’ room so much. It was awful. I missed quite a bit of it. I think all the ladies spoke very eloquently. They did it. I was surprised. It’s hard. There are some glitches. There are Things I never knew about, things I hear that were really hard to hear and take, emotional things, emotional breakdowns.”
“I was freezing and had to go to the bathroom all the time,” she repeats, laughing. “That was my experience but I was wearing a metal dress and it was under 19 [degrees] outside so it was freezing and this metal was against my skin and I was freezing. And I had this 32 ounces. blinded cup, and I could not sit still! I created my own nightmare, but reunions are always difficult. It’s the worst day of filming ever because you just don’t know what’s coming or it’s just such a tough day. And it’s an emotional – a very emotional – day. An exhausting day.”
That iridescent mug that mentions Marysol has become something of a trademark for her in Season 4. She is regularly seen sipping from the cup during her confessionals. As for the contents of the mug, Marysol says it’s usually filled with Tito’s vodka and lemonade, which she refers to as “cockie” or, more crudely, “rooster” — both abbreviations of “cocktail.”
“I shared on my side the [reunion] Sofa,” she admits. “I want everyone to be hydrated.”
As for the show after the reunion, Marysol is confident that she and the ladies will be back for a fifth season — well, at least some of the ladies.
“Of course, if it went so well, why not try again? And who would come back or not, I have no idea,” she says. “I mean, I think whoever did the best performances who were favourites. It’s like Olympic trials. Only the best come back. … I am still here! What do they say about cockroaches?”
