The Wanted’s Max George has said that Strictly Come Dancing left him ‘feeling so much better’ as two years of lockdown were ‘mentally difficult’ for the singer.

The 33-year old described how training with his dance partner Katya Jones, 32, has left him feeling ‘fitter and fitter’.

Max appeared in the 18th series of Strictly with Dianne Buswell back in 2020 but has joined this year’s tour after the live dates were scrapped in 2021.

‘I’ve been in a lull in lockdown the last two years have been quite difficult mentally for me,’ Max told the Sun.

‘I’ve got a lot of ups rather than downs at the moment. I’m feeling good.’

Last year, the singer opened up about how he has been struggling with his mental health for more than 10 years and how he decided to keep his battle to himself.

Max told the MailOnline about how he felt ‘guilty’ and ‘ungrateful’ for feeling unhappy during his time in the band.

He also described how he had to have treatment to burn off the spots that covered his body while battling the physical symptoms of depression.

During the height of his struggle with his mental health between 2014-15, Max said his ‘chest and back and shoulders’, were covered in spots ‘out of nowhere’.

Max said: ‘I had to have treatment to have it all burnt off.’

Shortly after the treatment, Max had a gig at Disneyland in Paris where he recalled being in agony as he danced with Cinderella during a performance.

He said: ‘I then had to go to Disneyland with the boys to perform and they were aware of the pain I was in because of this treatment and I had to get up and dance with Cinderella and she was ragging my back.’

Revealing he missed out on some of the trip’s highlights, he said: ‘I had to spend the whole night in a cold bath while the boys went out in Paris and that’s when the physical symptoms started.’
